Conficker / Downadup / Kido to Get Nastier on April 1st??
The Conficker worm, also known as Downadup and Kido, has many tricks yet to show. Millions of PCs have already been infected and some versions of the worm have a time bomb set to change its payload on April 1st. The particular change will increase the number of domains the infected machines can contact, from 500 to 50,000.
Now, there is a lot of media hype about the April 1st thing. While this is true that security analysts have found that date in the source code, instructions to change the payload could happen before and certainly after that date.
The other interesting thing is how the worm blocks access to a large panel of security vendors. The complete list can be found here.
Fortunately, ParetoLogic is one of the online security companies that are not blocked and our antivirus software will detect and remove Conficker.
Stay tuned for more coverage on the Conficker worm as we will follow it closely in the next few days until the anticipated date of April 1st. And by the way, changing your computer date will not do anything… the worm checks with multiple websites to find out the ‘real’ date/time.
