Why Do I Get a Trojan Horse Every 3 Days?
Harrison J asked:
For some reason every 3 days or so when I turn on my computer I have a trojan horse virus on it. When I run scans with AVG they detect nothing, but I’m losing some of my files every few days. What’s going on?

I don’t mean to be rude but maybe it’s because you own a PC instead of a Mac.
For your next upgrade, whenever that may be, I suggest going the Apple route

Either reformat your entire computer or take it into a specialist.
You could also try using trend micro’s free online scanner (search in google). Try updating your windows update as well to keep it up to date and install a firewall that actually works. I suggest sygate. Then you can block any outgoing or incoming traffic that you don’t want.
Oh yeah it’s just called a “trojan” you don’t have to put “horse” at the end of it, that was only in your history books.
Good luck.

The only reason is your computer is not thoroughly cleaned …
Try running Avast Antivirus in DOS mode…
When installing it will let you choose to schedule a boot time scan…

Keep track of the websites and such that you are going on or the programs that you are using. Then look up the sites that you go on commonly to see if they are safe sites using Yahoo! Answers and such.
If your anti-virus program doesn’t pick it up, it might be just what you are doing, or anyone that uses your computer is doing. Always make a hardcopy of your files though, that’s the best advice I have for you right now.
Here are a few other virus scanners and quarantiners (is that a word?):
(All freeware btw):
Avast 4.8 Home Edition

you’re using Windows, that’s why. Linux doesn’t have those problems.

Probably have a trojan horse that is re-creating itself by replicating either in the same location or in mass propagation areas that wont draw attention to itself it it were searched without a spyware killer like Spybot Search & destroy. Might want to run the freeware AVG antivirus to check for a virus that might be causing this problem.

You do not necessarily need to reformat your machine or reinstall Windows, you DO need to properly clean out the infection
First download the following (if the virus is blocking your internet, you may have to download these on another machine and burn to CD or copy to a USB memory stick)
Malwarebytes:
Superantispyware:
CCleaner (cleans out caches)
Avast! 4 Home:
Now, start the machine in Safe Mode (hit the F8 function key as the machine boots up, and choose Safe mode)
Turn off System Restore on your machine, but only until you get this fixed – many of these trojans get copied into the System Restore files, which anti-virus programs aren’t allowed to touch and the viruse could reinstall themselves from there. My Computer > Properties > System Restore.
Then run Malwarebytes, and clean everything it says
Then run Superantispyware
Then run Avast – If a virus infection is persistent, use Avast to do a boot-scan – click on “schedule boot-scan” and restart the computer
Then run CCleaner
Then turn System Restore back on.
Now install the antivirus program and antispyware program of your choice to do continuous scanning, and make sure you keep it up to date.

Base on detection rates.
AVG detection rates is below Avast.
Therefore, changing to Avast may be the solution for you.
It now protects against spyware, rootkits, and other forms of nonvirus malicious software.
Best of all, it’s free for personal use.
Avast is a very effective and free anti-virus program because it can do
a boot time scan in safe mode and it will remove all viruses on your PC.Even those stubborn trojan viruses that hide inside the system restore folder. I suspect your trojan is hidding in the system restore folder and Windows automatically restore the trojan file when it detect that it is missing.
Hopefully, Avast may solve your problem.
